Keeping the community together

We know that a real community needs amenities. Homes are vital, but a real community thrives with shared spaces and facilities, and a proper focal point with opportunities to get together.

Homes for all

We wanted Rathbone Market to reflect its diverse neighbourhood, meeting the needs of a wide range of residents. It was one of the very first places in London with a true mix of tenures, offering homes for private sale, private rent, shared ownership and affordable rent centred around public spaces for all.

The centre of the community

We worked with the London Borough of Newham to create a new community centre and library right in the heart of Canning Town. It continues to provide a central focus for the community. An important and thriving hub and neighbourhood centre, well-used and loved by local residents young and old.

In the market

Rathbone Market is one of London’s oldest and most famous street markets, so we knew that enabling it to continue trading throughout construction was vital in keeping the community together. We could then ensure its legacy and create a new, rejuvenated and permanent home for its next chapter as a market and events space in East London.
