Prestwich Regeneration gains momentum as Travel Hub takes shape

The ambitious £100 million+ regeneration of Prestwich Village Centre is gathering momentum, with the first major milestone – the construction of a £14m multi-storey Travel Hub – now well underway.
We welcomed Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, Leader of Bury Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Growth and Chief Executive Lynne Ridsdale to site to witness the progress first-hand. We were joined by the Vinci Construction team on a site tour to see how the Travel Hub is taking shape.
Site preparation, ground clearance and piling works are all already complete, as are the Vinci site offices and welfare compound. Drainage works are ongoing and works to create the foundations for the new building are ahead of schedule, with the first concrete pour now finished. In the coming weeks, during August, installation of the steel building frame will begin.
The 4-storey Travel Hub is designed to be as efficient as possible, minimising the environmental impact of the materials used and the design enables our contractor to utilise suppliers from within the UK to further minimise our impact on the environment. The build methodology has been produced to reduce impact on our neighbours and local residents by building as quietly and quickly as possible. Once erected, cladding and masonry will follow ahead of internal fit out works. It is anticipated that the Travel Hub will be fully complete by end July 2026.

Illustration of our vision for Prestwich Village
This modern-day multi-storey Prestwich Travel Hub will provide a quality, long-term parking solution for the village with 301 spaces, electric vehicle charging points, cycle storage, and car club vehicles.
It’s the first phase of the once-in-a-generation plans to reboot the village centre and create a thriving destination for shopping, dining and community events.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Growth, said:
“It’s incredibly exciting to see the first phase of this transformation now underway, especially knowing that it marks just the beginning of what’s to come. Our vision is to create a vibrant, sustainable village centre that serves the whole community.
“Following completion of the new travel hub, the next phase will see the Longfield Centre transformed into a modern, multifunctional village centre that meets the evolving needs of the community – featuring a new library, high-quality retail units, a new market, versatile community spaces, attractive green public areas, and new homes.”
“We recognise that the village regeneration works bring some disruption, and we appreciate the continued patience and support of residents and businesses during this transformative period. Every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience, and we continue to engage with Longfield Centre businesses as we prepare to deliver the revitalised new facilities.”
Construction of the new Prestwich Travel Hub is taking place first to ensure there is convenient alternative parking before demolition works begin at the Longfield Centre as part of the next phase.
