Quality design

Doncaster deserved a bold vision, so we commissioned Aedas architects to come up with a striking design that would deliver a landmark for the town. Its new, ultramodern performance venue, Cast, would be at home in any major European city.

A cultural catalyst

The centrepiece is the world-class Cast Theatre, that brings life, creativity and character to an area which had been suffering from major decline.

Local knowledge

Cast references the town’s traditional industries, when cast iron was used on the railways and in the structure of another of Doncaster’s iconic buildings, the Corn Exchange. It is uniquely Doncaster, drawing on its rich history to create a community asset the town can be proud of.

A place for people

Cast offers diverse, creative experiences in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. It’s committed to bringing the joy of theatre to everyone with adapted performances and supporting access for those with disabilities.

Certainly, Doncaster seems to have taken Cast to its heart. When the Guardian visited on a cold week-day lunchtime the place was bustling.
