A new partnership between Muse and Milton Keynes City Council.
We’ve announced a partnership with Milton Keynes City Council and Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) to deliver a masterplan for Central Bletchley, a major station-led regeneration scheme for Bletchley. Best known as the wartime home of the Enigma codebreakers, Bletchley is a market town in Milton Keynes, half an hour from London, with a population of 47,000 people.
A new gateway and community for Bletchley
Central Bletchley is a residential-led, mixed-use development that will bring forward new homes across a mix of affordable, open market sale and Build to Rent tenures. It will also feature new retail space alongside new community facilities and improved public spaces.
A programme of wider investment
This partnership marks the next step in the ongoing transformation of the area. The Government has invested £17m from the Growth Mission Fund, and Milton Keynes City Council a further £5m to deliver a new eastern entrance at Bletchley Station. The combined £22m investment will create a direct link between the station and Queensway, the town’s high street, acting as a catalyst for wider growth by improving accessibility, encouraging footfall and in turn supporting businesses. Central Bletchley will build on this momentum, to unlock new homes and create a lively, attractive place to live, work and invest.
Central Bletchley will bring these ambitions to life for local people, by providing the homes, jobs, public spaces and connectivity needed to help deliver this vision for the town.
What it means for Bletchley and the wider region
Regionally, the station improvements, together with the wider Central Bletchley proposals, will reinforce the town’s position within the Oxford to Cambridge growth corridor, helping to make Bletchley a more attractive place to live, work and invest. The new East West Rail link which is planned to connect Oxford to Cambridge via Bletchley will further strengthen the corridor’s connectivity. By building on these improved connections with new homes, jobs and public spaces, Central Bletchley is set to strengthen the town’s appeal to residents, businesses and investors alike.
Connectivity as the common thread
Central Bletchley is part of our wider portfolio and pipeline of station-led regeneration schemes across the UK. In the south alone, these include communities such as Stevenage Station Gateway and Bristol Temple Quarter. Across all of these places, infrastructure is treated as the foundation for long-term, sustainable growth, with new homes, commercial space and public spaces planned around access to rail and movement through town centres.
Andy Howell, Development Director at Muse, said:
“Station-led transformation such as this, is exactly the kind of community creation that Muse specialises in – enhanced connectivity and placemaking, complex partnerships delivering meaningful change, and a long-term brief to transform a town centre, not just a site.”
“We hope to deliver the Council’s vision to bring more life to the high street, provide greener, healthier and safer neighbourhoods with sustainable homes, retail space, public space and community infrastructure that will invigorate the town and unlock its potential. But, developments like this don’t succeed in isolation. They need the right partners, aligned around a shared vision from the outset. That’s exactly what we have in Bletchley.”
Matt Green, Development Director at MKDP, said:
“Our vision is for a place that respects Bletchley’s distinctive heritage while being designed around how communities live today and built to accommodate the growth that’s coming.”
“Muse brings exactly the kind of long-term partnership approach and delivery capability that this opportunity demands, and we look forward to working together to make this vision a reality and realise Bletchley’s potential.”
Cabinet Member responsible for the Town Deal at MK City Council, Cllr Ed Hume said:
“By bringing new homes, improved public spaces, community facilities and better connections around the station, we are creating the conditions for long-term growth and investment. With East West Rail and the investment in a new station entrance helping to transform connectivity, this regeneration will help unlock Bletchley’s full potential as a vibrant destination at the heart of Milton Keynes and the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor.”
