Conversation on plans for Stockport 8 to launch in new year

A first community conversation on our £250million plans to create an exciting mixed-use neighbourhood to the west of Stockport town centre will launch in January.
Known as Stockport 8, it is one of the largest town centre regeneration projects in the UK which will see a diverse mix of up to 1,200 new homes for the people of Stockport, spaces for independent businesses and green spaces to meet, relax and enjoy.
Located on land either side of King Street West and next to the railway viaduct the plans will reconnect the site to nearby neighbourhoods and the town centre, bringing life back to what was once a thriving residential neighbourhood under the railway arches.
The site is central to the wider £1billion investment currently being delivered across the town centre and is at the heart of the £500million Stockport MDC masterplan, which will transform Stockport into the most sustainable, liveable town centre in the region over the next decade. The 130-acre Stockport MDC masterplan will see the delivery of 4,000 new homes, alongside local amenities, green spaces, new workspace and radical transport improvements.
As part of our ECF partnership with Legal & General and Homes England, we’re working with Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC).

That is why this first milestone in the community conversation is a significant one.
“Our ambition for the site and for the wider regeneration district, has always been one that best serves the needs of local people, and this process will enable us to best achieve this ambition, and to move another step closer to building the most sustainable and liveable town centre, not only in the region but in the UK.”
Local people will be invited to find out more and have their say on an initial draft masterplan via a series of drop-in events, an online Q&A and website. An information leaflet will also be sent to thousands of homes and businesses around the site.
