Community Conversation Begins on the Regeneration of North West Quadrant
Slough is on the cusp of an exciting transformation. Working in partnership with Homes England, we have launched a new phase of community conversations on the ambitious plans to redevelop the former Thames Valley University site into a thriving new neighbourhood for the town.
Known as North West Quadrant (NWQ), the 9-acre site sits at the heart of Slough and has stood vacant since 2023. Now, it is set to become a key part of Slough’s 2040 vision, a landmark destination that brings new homes, green spaces and opportunities to the community, while respecting the town’s heritage and future ambitions.
A once in a generation opportunity
The North West Quadrant plans hope to transform the area, proposing to deliver around 1,500 new homes, workspace, retail, restaurants, community spaces and public parks. Residents can look forward to:
-Vibrant green spaces and welcoming public areas designed for relaxation, play and community life.
-Flexible commercial and retail spaces that support Slough town centre and provide new opportunities for local businesses.
-Future-proofed, sustainable buildings and infrastructure, built with long-term resilience in mind.
-Around 1500 new homes, blending affordable housing with market sale and rental options to ensure a genuine mix of tenures.
-Meanwhile uses, temporary projects and activities to bring life to the site even before construction begins.
-A distinct new identity, positioning NWQ as a landmark development that reflects Slough’s culture, history, and aspirations.
NWQ is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s about unlocking a part of the town that has been underused for years and creating a neighbourhood that residents can feel proud to call their own.
Listening to the community
Alongside Homes England, we have been clear: this will be a project shaped by the people of Slough. Consultation has already begun, with the team launching the conversation at the Community Festival at Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy on 25 September. More than 100 people stopped by to share their views and the dedicated consultation website – northwestquadrant.commonplace.is – has already attracted over 500 visitors since its launch.
This feedback is proving invaluable. From aspirations for more green spaces to ideas about retail and community facilities, local people are helping refine the proposals before a planning submission is made next year.
Chris Scott, Development Director at Muse, captured the team’s enthusiasm:
“We’d like to thank all the people who have already taken the time to give their feedback on the scheme. North West Quadrant is a landmark opportunity for Slough, and we are fully committed to delivering a neighbourhood that reflects the town’s heritage and ambition.”
Get involved: upcoming drop-in event
The conversation is just getting started, and residents, businesses, and stakeholders are warmly invited to continue shaping the future of NWQ. A public drop-in event will give the community another opportunity to meet the project team, ask questions, and provide feedback on the emerging proposals:
-Venue: Moxy Hotel, 5 William Street, Slough SL1 1GZ
-Date: Thursday 16 October 2025
-Time: 4pm–8pm
For those unable to attend in person, the consultation website remains open 24/7. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Love2Shop voucher. Please give your feedback by 31st October.
