Supporting innovation in Salford

Helping to deliver lasting, positive change that benefits people and communities – as well as being at the forefront of industry advancements – are central themes behind the spaces and places we create.

That’s why we’re proud to be sponsoring this year’s Business of Science Conference which takes place at the University of Salford on Wednesday 22nd May.

Bringing together the brightest minds from across the science and innovation ecosystem for a day of exchanging invaluable insights and building relationships, the conference will see business leaders, industrialists, academics, and policymakers exploring the latest opportunities and challenges in the business of science.

The conference also acts as melting pot of creativity, where industry professionals and students help nurture scientific ideas that could become the innovations of tomorrow.

These values – and the desire to be trailblazing and pioneering – are intrinsically linked to what we’re delivering through Crescent Innovation, a key part of the wider £2.5bn, 252-acre Crescent Salford masterplan.

A place where people, industry and academia will meet to focus on research, development and new scientific concepts, Crescent Innovation will bring forward up to 933 new homes, as well as 1.7m sq ft of new commercial innovation floorspace, academic and research floorspace, active ground-floor space, and a new movement hub, as well as incorporating significant improvements to public spaces.

It will connect communities across the city and forms a vital part of positioning the City of Salford as a leader in innovation, collaboration, and placemaking, helping to harness the wealth of talent in the local area.

At Muse, the spaces, and places we create are aimed at unlocking potential – both of the built environment and the people who live, work, and play in the vicinity.

This mantra is at the very heart of Crescent Innovation, and is integral to our ambitions of creating a robust and resilient Salford that’s renowned on the global stage, not just for scientific breakthroughs but as a place where people can thrive, prosper and enhance their skills.

The Business of Science Conference is a fundamental part of this, which is why we’re honoured to be involved in the latest iteration of the event which was first held in 2016.

This year’s theme centres around the topic of ‘The Future of Science and Innovation for Environmental, Societal, and Economic Benefit,’ and on the day we will be leading a panel and discussion on the topic of commercialisation.

Amongst other themes, the event will explore how science and innovation can drive economic impact and be developed for commercial and societal benefit, a topic central to the idea behind Crescent Innovation and the wider Crescent Salford masterplan.

We’re very much looking forward to the Conference, and hearing about the latest scientific innovations and concepts driving the business of science.

The £2.5 bn Crescent Salford masterplan is being delivered by ECF (formerly the English Cities Fund), our joint venture with Legal & General and Homes England, in partnership with Salford City Council and the University of Salford.
