The Stockport 8 Masterplan conversation continues with social value programme aimed at young people

Following a successful string of public consultation events, where we heard the views of people and businesses in Stockport about our plans to regenerate part of town centre west, we are now working with place education and engagement specialist, PLACED and Social Value Portal, to host a 3-day programme on social value at Stockport College.

To kick things off, the design team, led by our architect shedkm’s James Spencer and Caleb Jones from our landscape architect, Planit, were joined by 25 young people from Stockport, who were keen to have their voices heard to help shape the future of the town.

Social value is the economic, social and environmental wellbeing created by investment generated from a development. This includes the value that can be generated by people or organisations, going over and above their business as usual to benefit people, communities, the environment and society as a whole.

We’re looking to create a neighbourhood that has a positive impact on people and the planet, so we’ve developed a social value strategy to outline how investment generated from the Stockport 8 development can improve the quality of life for communities locally. This is an opportunity to deliver significant benefits to Stockport and also attract further investment into the town.

The Stockport 8 neighbourhood is being brought forward by ECF , a partnership between MuseLegal & General and Homes England, alongside Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC).

Max King, project director said;

The first step in developing a social value strategy is understanding local needs and priorities which is why we are spending valuable time with this group of young people. We want to take a creative approach to generating proposals for social value initiatives aimed to improve the quality of life for communities living in Stockport.”

Two social value pop up events will also take place in early March, to share the views of local young people, community groups, service providers and local businesses on how they feel social value initiatives can improve the quality of life for people living in Stockport.
