It reports through six divisions of Partnership Housing, Mixed Use Partnerships, Fit Out, Construction, Infrastructure and Property Services.

Our History

1984

In the beginning

AMEC Properties is created. We undertake largely speculative development projects such as Sunlight House in Manchester, Middlesex Street in London and Trafalgar Place in Brighton.

1987

Urban regeneration

AMEC Regeneration is created to look at transforming derelict sites with Government assistance.

We sign development agreements for Wakefield Europort, Eurocentral in North Lanarkshire and Newcastle Quayside.

1992

A new era

AMEC Developments is created from a merger between AMEC Properties and AMEC Regeneration.

We undertake pre-let development opportunities including Barbirolli Square in Manchester, Almondvale in Livingston and Hulme High Street in Manchester.

2001

ECF

ECF is created as a joint venture between Homes England, Legal & General and AMEC Developments to undertake projects in 'Assistant Areas'.

2002

Waterside Places

We launch Waterside Places, a joint venture between Canal & River Trust, Igloo and AMEC Developments.

2007

Muse Developments

Morgan Sindall acquire AMEC Developments and we rename the business Muse, as a nod to our focus on creating mixed-use places.

2008

Overcoming challenges

We win a number of new opportunities in places including Basingstoke, Manchester Victoria, Blackpool, Doncaster and Warrington.

2012

Expansion

We buy Igloo out of Waterside Places and a rebrand takes place alongside new growth.

2013

A new voice

We refresh the Muse brand and roll it out across the business.

2014

National success

We ramp up activity significantly with new neighbourhoods commencing in Lewisham, Reading, Salford and the Northern Quarter in Manchester.

2015

Scaling up

Increased activity, capital employed and turnover doubles. We have a number of successive record years for profit, and staffing increases by 50%.

2017

ECF doubles

ECF doubles in size to a £200m fund and we start to seek new opportunities.

2019

New horizons

We move to new offices in London (Soho Square), Salford (Riverside House) and Leeds (East Parade).

2020

Unprecedented times

The start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite challenging circumstances, we sign major forward funding agreements for Lewisham Gateway Phase 2 (£252 Get Living London) and New Victoria (£130m PIC).

2021

Our Sustainable Future

We launch our industry-leading sustainable development strategy, Our Sustainable Future. This data-driven strategy provides us with clear guidelines and targets to deliver the highest levels of environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

2022

A long-term commitment

We recommit with our partners, Legal and General and Homes England to extend the life of our highly-successful joint venture, ECF, to December 2036.

2023

Muse reimagined

We share our new look with the world that tells the story of the great places we create, and the people who make them happen.
