Working with Stockport Council, we’re launching a community conversation to get local businesses and residents involved in shaping the next phase of Stockport Exchange.

Stockport Exchange is rapidly emerging as one of the North West’s most thriving business hotspots, providing high quality, accessible and sustainable workspace right next to the train station. 1, 2 and 3 Stockport Exchange are all now complete, and the first phases are home to tenants including Stagecoach, musicMagpie, Holiday Inn Express, Sainsbury’s, BASF, Industrials REIT and HURST.

We’re working with architect, Sheppard Robson to update the approved masterplan and bring forward detailed plans for the next phase – 4 Stockport Exchange – as well as outline planning for the final phases, reflecting the amazing progress which has already been made in delivering four phases of the scheme.

4 Stockport Exchange will comprise 60,000 sq ft of highly sustainable  workspace with ground floor spaces for shops, cafes, bars or restaurants, with a fully accessible landscaped approach to the train station.

The remaining phases will incorporate a further 185,000 sq ft of workspace and the potential for up to 100 new homes and flexible ground floor commercial space. As part of the plans to attract further new occupiers and jobs to the town, new green, safe spaces will be included for employees, visitors, and commuters to enjoy, including a new public square in the heart of Stockport Exchange.

Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “Stockport Exchange continues to go from strength to strength and this last phase reinforces our commitment to not only deliver more high-quality office space, but to also incorporate much needed homes in a desirable, town centre location. Stockport Exchange has been an integral part of our £1bn regeneration plans, attracting international businesses and raising the bar in terms of quality and design.

“I would encourage residents and local businesses to view the plans and help shape this important final phase.”

Senior Development Manager, Tom Webber, said:

We are very proud of the progress we have made at Stockport Exchange to date, and we want to continue this success with the development of 4 Stockport Exchange and the final phases of the scheme. ”
The offices at Stockport Exchange continue to attract an array of occupiers looking to locate to an accessible, sustainable business hub, so it’s fantastic that we can continue to deliver more workspace, as well as potentially including a residential element to the wider scheme. We now look forward to hearing what local people and businesses have to say about the plans and sharing their feedback.”

Once the responses have been considered, the plans will be finalised, and a planning application submitted to Stockport Council in spring 2024.

Once complete, the £145m Stockport Exchange development will have delivered up to 375,000 sq ft of office space and 28,000 sq ft of commercial retail and leisure floor space.

Stockport Exchange is central to the wider £1billion investment currently being delivered across the town centre. It also forms part of the £500million regeneration masterplan being delivered by Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), alongside it’s public and private partners to transform Stockport into the most sustainable, liveable town centre in the region over the next decade. The 130-acre Stockport MDC masterplan will see the delivery of 4,000 new homes, alongside local amenities, green spaces, new workspace and radical transport improvements.
