We are a partnership business

Bournemouth Development Company is a 50:50 partnership between Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council and Muse. We work in partnership to regenerate land in Bournemouth town centre.

Problem solvers

The joint venture was formed to take a holistic look at land available for regeneration in Bournemouth, bringing about co-ordinated, strategic improvements, and acting as a catalyst for further regeneration across the community.

Delivering Social Impact

Our commitment to Bournemouth is much deeper than the buildings we create. Wherever possible we work with local businesses and will invest as much as we can in the local supply chain.

We are bringing our approach to sustainability, placemaking and maximising the social and economic impact of our projects to support our work, creating a positive, long-lasting legacy.

Madeira Road

At Madeira Road we created much needed, purpose-built student accommodation in partnership with Arts University Bournemouth, within easy walking or cycling distance from  campus.

Three halls of residence provide quality living spaces in the heart of the town for 378 students, with 61 apartments for small student groups plus four studio apartments.

Just next to the accommodation is a 382-space multi-deck public car park operated by BCP Council. It features an attractive series of large, bright aluminium ‘fins’ in eight graduating shades from pale yellow through to bright orange.

The Citrus Building

In 2015 we delivered our first mixed-use building in Bournemouth, bringing new homes and a family friendly, food led offer to Horseshoe Common. We’re immensely proud of this award-winning place, which delivered 64 high-quality, contemporary new homes ranging from studios to three bedrooms, and the popular Turtle Bay restaurant.

We worked closely with the council on a joined-up approach to local placemaking, working together to transform this part of the town centre.

Berry Court

The £27m Berry Court was completed in August 2018 and delivered 113 one, two and three- bedroom homes for rent in partnership with Eastleigh-based Abri Housing.

Built on the site of a previously under-utilised public car park, it features the first purpose-built Build to Rent homes in Bournemouth town centre, and is now a vibrant community that has attracted new residents who enjoy living close to town centre amenities and sea front.

Treetops

In 2021, the £12m Treetops project delivered 46 award-winning new homes for rent to Seascape Homes & Property, owned by BCP Council to provide secure, long-term rented accommodation. Treetops has been recognised by the housing industry across a number of national awards including British Homes Awards “Development of the Year (20 to 100 homes)” and was delivered in partnership with the local contractor Parsons & Joyce.

West Cliff Mansions

Completed in 2022, the £14m West Cliff Mansions is a collection of 44 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, located half a mile from Bournemouth Pier and Poole Bay.

Alongside new homes, we worked closely with BCP Council to agree a major investment in the local highways, providing safer crossing points for parents and children of the local primary school.  The completion of West Cliff Mansions is the latest phase of an ongoing investment in the West Cliff including the widely acclaimed Nici Hotel.

The project was delivered by Poole-based contractor, Parsons & Joyce and a high-quality team of local designers, led by Fareham-based architect, HGP.
