Muse was recently named ESG Developer of the Year at Property Week’s inaugural ESG Edge Awards.

The Awards were formed to celebrate those leading the way, and implementing effective and impactful Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies  in the built  sector. It culminated in a ceremony in London – attended by the biggest names in the industry.

The accolade reflects what we have achieved over the last 12 months. It is significant, and we are proud to be recognised.

From completion of Europe’s largest living wall, at Eden in Salford, to Greenhaus – the largest collection of Passivhaus-certified homes in the North West – our teams are leading the way to innovate and deliver high levels of environmental sustainability.

Of course, this is only one strand. In Lambeth, we have completed a new civic and community hub. As well as restoring the Grade II listed town hall, we delivered new homes, shops, and offices as part of a diverse mixed-use neighbourhood.

We have delivered affordable homes across the country. This includes hundreds of homes in places like Hale Wharf in Tottenham and Manor Road Quarter in Canning Town, which are amongst the most unaffordable areas in the UK.

The Muse Academy – set up in 2023 – has partnered with Oldham College to support T-Level students gain work experience across the sector in 2024, as well as supporting apprentice and graduate positions. We take our responsibility to improve accessibility to the industry and upskill and develop young people  seriously.

Our partnership approach underpins what we do. When we work together with local authorities and the public sector, we can intentionally target investment and interventions in towns and cities that need it the most. Our partnership approach is ultimately accountable to the communities in which we work.

According to the Property Week judges:

Muse are clearly a business that understands all three aspects of ESG, walking the walk when it comes to their projects and supporting the communities in which they operate.”

Early next year, we will publish  the latest ‘Our Sustainable Future’ Report. It will showcase our progress across five core social value and sustainability themes: Net Zero Carbon, Health and Wellbeing, Circular Economy, Biodiversity, and Social Value.

It will provide further evidence of our progress during 2024. It will also provide an opportunity to look ahead, not least to Habiko – a new partnership between Muse, PIC, and Homes England to deliver 3,000 low-carbon, affordable homes.

Whilst we are rightly proud of our achievements, our progress is the result of years of hard work – across all our teams – to embed sustainability , Social Value and governance across everything we do.

We have a 40-year legacy of working in partnership to create sustainable and liveable places with a focus on positive social outcomes.

From a 20-year partnership with Legal & General and Homes England as part of ECF, to the ongoing regeneration of places like Salford, Lewisham, or Bradford our impact can over be measured in decades.

We have achieved a great deal, not just in 12 months but over 40 years – and there is much more to come.
